This has been the case long before so-called “AI” tools (the topic of them not being actual AI is for another day). Why would anyone be interested to watch a photo if they know everything in it could be fake? Photography allowed to reproduce reality better and quicker. Still, a painting and a photograph were clearly different things, Yakov Livshits and a painter’s only limit was their imagination. PerL oh sure, we had abstract movements, cubists, impressionists, blah, blah, but don’t kid yourself that “realistic” painting ever died out! It’s more alive now than ever, and at all levels from amateur art clubs through commercial art-for-sale, to Royal Portraits and the like.

From the menu, select “Generative Fill” to access the AI-powered capabilities. I’m finding the generative expand option much more interesting. One of my many weaknesses as a photographer is that I crop too tight in-camera, so that if a website or an art editor wants an aspect ratio other than the one I shot in, I’m stuck. This could be a great aid for someone who doesn’t have model releases for marketing work to simply swap real people with invented ones.

It’s OK to Leave the Prompt Blank

In seconds the AI Generative Fill tool will work its magic and devise a design for you based on your text. Photoshop (Beta) includes AI options including Generative Fill, if you already have installed this version of Photoshop you can skip this step. The age of digital marketing has seen the need to create high-converting, professional, and creative landing pages. Whether selling an eBook, online software, or a high-ticket course, your potential customers expect to interact with a landing page at some point. Then we’ll import our other image and add it to the canvas on the left side.

It doesn’t lift sections of existing images and throw them together to create a new composition. Extend the canvas

But where do you draw the line between enhancement and fabrication? That’s always been a tricky crossover point in photography, and if the AI revolution has done one thing, it’s to throw this into sharp perspective. While Generative Fill in Photoshop offers powerful capabilities, it also has certain limitations to be aware of. Love the subject, but would like a more interesting background? Simply press”select subject” in the taskbar, then press command + shift + i to select the background. However, instead of leaving the prompt empty, enter a description of what you want to be generated. Coaxing the image you want out of any AI Generator right now takes time and a lot of prompt tweaking. I can simply select the idiot, press generative fill from the Contextual Task Bar, and then press generate with an empty prompt.

Release your mouse button to remove the distraction, and it’s gone. If the AI-generated content looks great overall but you notice a few distractions, you don’t need to keep clicking Generate hoping for a perfect result. Instead, use Photoshop’s Remove Tool, another new AI-powered feature, to easily clean them up. As we’ve discussed previously, Adobe Photoshop has a beta out that adds a powerful feature it calls Generative Fill. I’ve been exploring this tool for a while, and have had way more fun with it than seems appropriate for a serious technology like AI. Need to add a cupboard, person, or another object to your image, enter your text prompt and Generative Fill will generate a selection of items for you to choose from.

To begin using Generative Fill, you need to make a selection around the area you want to modify or replace. With the selection tool of your choice, carefully outline the target area. Ensure that your selection includes enough relevant information for Generative Fill to generate accurate and realistic results. Adobe’s generative AI lets you create almost anything you can think of, and now with the Generative Fill tool, you can non-destructively add, remove, and replace parts of an image using AI, too. Adobe’s Generative Fill tool takes photo editing and art creation to a new level.

Generative Fill works with Cloudinary’s padding crop modes and leverages the new gen_fill option for backgrounds (or b_gen_fill for the URL API). Combining these options allows users to achieve a visually pleasing fill that seamlessly matches the original image. Back in May, Adobe brought the first taste of generative AI to its Photoshop beta.

Generative Fill is now supported by Adobe’s Firefly family of creative generative AI models, allowing users to enlarge photos and add or delete objects easily. Combining photos is another great way to Yakov Livshits use Photoshop AI’s generative fill feature. We’ll show you an example with two video game character images created in Midjourney. We’ll start by creating a blank canvas measuring 1800px by 1024px.
